This might sound mad but...

I want to run another marathon next year. Yes you heard me correctly another marathon. As much as I bitched about training for it...I actually miss it. For the last 2 months I've woken up everyday...not hurting. It's  weird. Yes I know it should be weird to wake up everyday hurting but I can't explain it. I've been hitting the gym but it's not the same. Call me a masochist I guess, but I love that feeling of every muscle in your body and every force in the universe telling you to quit at mile 16 of 18 and powering through. Running is more of a mental game than a physical one for me and I just can't get the same thing out of the gym. I sound like someone on crack. Hello my name is Marisa and I'm an addict.

My only hesitation is, as I'm sure you haven't forgotten, I'm getting married next year. I want to run the Minneapolis marathon which is June 2nd so in all reality it shouldn't be a problem. What I'm afraid of is injury. I can't afford to be injured. I won't have time for it. Also it is a very big time commitment and I don't want to half ass my training, but I also don't want half ass my wedding either. I need to make a decision and fast because I will need to start training beginning of February if I do decide to do it.

My other option is to do 2 half marathons instead of a full. The Minneapolis Half in June and then the Twin Cities Half in October. Honestly I don't know what to do. I really really want to do the full in June but I'm thinking it might be selfish to devote so much time to training again and leave Drew to deal with the wedding for 5 months all on his own.

Thoughts? Anyone else run a marathon before their wedding?

Speaking of weddings....MY DRESS IS HERE!!!! I go pick it up next Thursday :)

Cheers!

I'm calling myself out

Remember that one time I said "hey I have a desk now so obviously I'm going to sit at it and write super awesome posts again." Then I didn't. I have no excuses why I didn't I just didn't. Probably because I had nothing super awesome to write about. Apparently I thought my desk would make my life exciting and so cool I would be bursting with awesome posts to write. Anyways, my last couple of posts have been all wedding related and I REFUSE to let this become a wedding blog.

So! Maybe some of you have noticed but it is now December which means that it is BIRTHMAS TIME!!! The most wonderful time of the year! Which means I can go back to posting pictures of things I want and hoping that someone (Drew) gets a hint. Or two. My birthday is Christmas day after all. First up:

I need a new wallet yo. I already got myself a new Kate Spade bag for my birthday ( I needed it stop with the side eye.) so I desperately need a replacement wallet for Ole Green thats been around for like 5 years. Yeesh.

Next:

Our honeymoon (if we're able to take one right after the wedding) will be backpacking in Glacier National Park for a week. This is really just a necessity.

If I have to tell you why I need want these then clearly we aren't friends.

There you go folks, Birthmas wish list 2013. What would you add?

Cheers,

Marisa

317 Days

Honestly it feels like 17 days. I think this is the real reason I wanted to elope and not have a big wedding. Details. Ohhhh the never ending details. What if I pick the wrong centerpiece? What if Drew doesn't decide to give monogrammed Brooks Brothers umbrellas as groomsman gifts like JFK? What if my hair looks more Elizabeth Taylor than Jackie Kennedy? Will people care if they don't get to blow bubbles at us? Should I just get some god damn bubbles?

I know, not everything is going to go perfectly. But that doesn't stop me from losing sleep at night worrying about bridesmaid dresses, or bouquets and bridal party gifts and what kind of suits the boys should wear.

Ugh.

In other news we finally got my ring sized. You know like 3 months later. Turns out I have the tiniest of fingers. Ring size = 4. Thats right 4. Like the size most peoples fingers were when they were 10. Oh well.

I'm hoping to be able to use my mom's wedding band as my own providing they can seperate it from her engagement ring. It's already a size 4. So I guess that explains where I get my small fingered-ness from. Oddly enough of all the details I obssess over the wedding jewlery is not one of them. I could care less. I'd actually rather not wear an engagement ring, it's clunky and obnoxious. Everyone was all "oh I never used to wear jewlery but I don't even notice my engagement ring anymore", well guess what people I still notice and it still drives me nuts. I take it off as soon as I get home and on weekends I often leave the house without it. Not wearing a ring does not make me not engaged. I wish the exchanging of goats or something was still popular. I love goats and would love to have one.

In other news...

My dress is still not here and that makes me sad. Yes it's been less than a week since I ordered it. I still want it here now.

317 days to go.

Cheers,

Marisa

Saying Yes To The Dress

Yesterday was the day. Yesterday was the day I went to get my dress. My wedding dress. I have never been so excited for anything in my life. Honestly I never planned my wedding growing up so I never had a plan or vision in my head from the start, but once we decided to go ahead with a non-elopement and a full wedding my Type A-ness took over and plan, vision was locked down. The vision for my dress: Jackie Kennedy.

Having done pageants in high school and college, I've worn a wide array of dresses. Spaghetti straps, halters, strapless, sweatheart necklines, and a-lines, mermaid, sheaths and fit and flare cuts. So the only dress that said "bridal" to me was a ball gown. I wanted a simple classic elegant ball gown in organza, tulle, or chiffon. Something that would look light and airy for an outdoor wedding. No laceup back, no pickups, no ruching, and very little bling or appliques. Again, the motto of the day was "think like Jackie O!"

Lucky for me my consultant at The Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul was awesome and also a lover of Jackie and ball gowns. She also did not mind my I know what I want just bring me only these things attitude. I know on Say Yes To The Dress girls go in wanting one thing and ending up with something they thought they didn't want. I am not that girl.

Drew's mom and my friend Andrea came along and took tons of pictures for me. I tried on some really great dresses with only one dress I just didn't like, and here they are.

This was the first dress I tried and I obviously loved the shape. I did love the skirt too, I really love textured bottoms, but it didn't fit my "what would Jackie do" theme.

I really loved this dress, it fit perfectly off the rack and it was just beautiful. The skirt was tulle and had beading and appliques similar to those on the skirt of Kate Middleton's dress. However, while beautiful and a ball gown, it still wan't my Jakie O vision. The next dress.....this was the only dress that I just didn't like.

The bodice...not bad. A little more bling than I wanted but it was pretty and classic at least. But that skirt. Ughhhhh that skirt. The tulle would just not lay flat at all. I just envisioned my poor bridesmaids trying to corral it at our outdoor ceremony every time I moved or a little breeze blew. Not a fan.

Then we tried on my dress. Well not quite my dress as it was the entirely wrong fabric (taffeta. the HORROR) but the neckline was perfect the overall silhouette was perfect, then we added a birdcage hair piece and everyone was sold. I knew it from the moment I saw it on the website that it was the one for me and it was true. It has been ordered and will be arriving in 4-6 months :)

A big thank you to my mom who generously gave me a budget of $1500 for my dress. However, I luckily got my dream dress at a dream price only spending about 1/3 of the budget! Which is good because I just can't imagine spending $1500 on a dress I'm going to only wear once, even if it is my big day.

So another big thing checked off my list! I'm so excited I can't wait for it to get here. Why does it have to take soooooo long?

Wedding Cheers,

Marisa

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event

You guessed it....IT SNOWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes Des Moines received it's first snowfall last night, and everything looked soooo pretty. Now the sun is out and it's warm and it's a big ole sloppy mess. Booooo. Still, this morning I threw on all my favorite winter gear to head out and enjoy the snow while it lasted.

(Hat: H&M Scarf: Burberry Sweater: Express)

(Pleated skirt pea coat: JCPenney Boots: Target)

I wanted to take some pretty pictures but by the time I left for work it had already started turning slushy :(

Oh well, I don't think anyone was ready for snow anyways.

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my last post. I know everything will be alright, but I'm the Queen of Worryland. I just need to take a deep breath and focus on ONE thing at a time.

First Snow Cheers!

Do you have somewhere else to be? A hideous skirt convention?

I watched The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria yesterday. I'm pretending to be Emily Blunt today. So this weekend was Race for the Cure and it was once again, so much fun. I love seeing the Des Moines capitol building turn into a sea of pink :) It wasn't my best 5k (30 minutes) but I always end up getting choked up a few times throughout the race and I have to slow it down to prevent myself from hyperventalating. This year it was due to many a big burly men running in pink for their moms, sisters, or wives, and also little boys running for their mothers. I may be tearing up about it as I write this. If you've never done Race for the Cure I highly recommend you do. It's such an amazing experience.

I have a short work week as I'm heading home Thursday and heading to a wedding (yay!) As such, I've been working out like crazy and living off a cube of cheese if I feel as though I'm about to pass out (jk just more Emily for you!) This is more for the going home part, less for the wedding. I've discovered it's best to just be my skinniest self and avoid side eye and looks of contempt while at home. I cannot wait for Sunday, as I plan on consuming 5000 calories....for breakfast.

In true me style, I hate all the dresses that I own and am panicking about what to wear. Am I alone in this? I had planned on wearing this emerald green dress I have, but put it on yesterday and almost vommed on my cat. I have another dress that I can wear as back up but I don't looovve it. And I wore blue to the last wedding. I'm going to end up being that girl who wears blue. What do you guys do in situations like this? I'm taking all suggestions.

Cheers!

30 Before 30: Camping....Like For Real Camping

So I have a lot of fun stuff coming up the next couple of weekends. Most importantly seeing a lot of Drew. The super fun thing I've got to look forward to is camping in Tettegouche State Park over Labor Day. Camping (for reals camping) is on my 30 Before 30 because....well.....in my 26.5 years of existence, I have never ever been camping. And here is why.

This is my idea of camping:

I know I know I know you all saw me being a bad ass mountaineering woman in Colorado but here's the deal: That was about 5.5 hours in the wilderness. Not all day all night. Sleeping on the ground with possible bugs crawling on you and quite possibly the worst thing ever: PEEING IN THE WOODS!

No, I have never peed in the woods. Shocked? I know most people are. I would rather rupture my bladder than pee in the woods. I am not an outdoorsy girl what can I say. But, I"m determined to do this and to do it well. I may be a pageant doing, makeup/fashion obsessed, bug fearing ,river hating, dirt loathing, break into a cold sweat when on a lake, girl who hates sweating but I WILL successfully camp just as well as any Amazon who pees in the woods and eats bark. I WILL survive with out my concealer and bronzer and my straightening iron, and I WILL NOT call for room service...unless you can actually do that. Then I totally am.

So this post was not a cheer me on post. This was a heap a lot of praise on Drew and send him good luck vibes and well wishes. He has undertaken a big task and is well aware of my camping/outdoors shortcomings. Luckily he is an Eagle Scout and I'm pretty sure Camping with Whiny High Maintenance Girl is like a patch they have to earn. No? Well then just keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Camping Cheers!

And it burned burned burned....

Oh hai! Greetings from the 8th* circle of Hell where it is currently 113 degrees with air so thick and full of moisture catfish can be seen zooming past your windows. Enjoy your stay in Des Moines! Ugh seriously, this has got to stop. It's just getting ridiculous. I mean sure we're midwesterners and we're used to hot and humid summers, but this? This is on a whole other level. I know we're not the only ones suffering. So to all you other poor poor heat stricken folks, stay cool and stay safe! And to those on the east coast and the south....be prepared because it's coming your way.

Enough grumbling already. Hello new followers! A big thank you to my girl Gigi for linking me in her latest post, and thanks to all of you who made their way over here. I hope I do not disappoint!

Okay so to take my mind off this insane heat going on, I'm going to think about the things I want most for this fall.

The blazer is kind of a left over from last fall. I never got one and still really really really want one. This year is the year.

These are the styles I live for. Classic, feminine and just a little bit preppy. I am so ready to say adios to shorts, tanks and flip flops. I know I know you all love summer. I'm sorry, I just can't get into it. I enjoy drinking beers on patios. But I actually enjoy doing it wrapped up in my Burberry scarf and North Face jacket more. What am I doing in Iowa right? Alaska/Canada here I come!

I hope you're all beating the heat and staying cool! What are you loving/looking forward to this fall? Or are you not looking forward to it at all? You better be......;)

Cheers!

* while there are 9 circles in The Inferno, the 9th circle is actually all ice. We're in the one right above it, the one for people that commit fraud. The one that's still hot as balls.

So Little To Do, So Much Time

Strike that. Reverse it. First off wow! Hello to all the new readers...or old readers who've said hello recently. So nice to meet you! I love your comments, they make me smile :)

So I'm starting to feel the pressure of my upcoming travels and race. Mostly the race. In June I will be running the Dam to Dam.

I'm excited and nervous. It's the farthest race I've ever done, and I know that there is no way to predict how your body will preform on the day of a race no matter how hard you've trained. Still, after working sooooo hard it's difficult to not be disappointed if things don't go as well as expected. I suppose I will just keep training hard and hope for the best!

Although I will admit the training comes at a great time as sigh....we're approaching swimsuit season again. I got a new one even though I wear a swimsuit about 3 times a summer. I don't tan (Skin cancer/wrinkles...no thanks) and well, I hate hot and don't like sweating. That said, I do loooove the retro swimsuits that are insanely popular right now.

What swimsuit trends are you loving this year?

PTF Syndrome Can Suck It

So today was my first physical therapy session even in my life. I know you were all distraught with worry; don't it turned out just fine. On to the more important stuff like wtf did I do to myself to land in physical therapy? Well, most of you know I am a runner. I love it, I live for it. I however will be the first to admit that I'm not so awesome at mixing up my exercises. I run. I lift weights...kinda sorta. So in my best laymen terms, the muscle tendon thing that goes from my hip to my knee cap that keeps it in place and on track became so weak from never getting worked out that my knee cap is now off track. PTF Syndrome:  Patellofemoral Syndrome, AKA my current worst enemy. I'll be fine it's not like I'll need surgery or anything, and my physical therapist is super pretty and the cousin of a former co-worker so I feel like I"m in good hands.  Oh in other super awesome news, Kate Spade will be here Friday. Get excited. As I said it was on the Europe list and so to give you an idea of what I had in mind I created a little Polyvore for you :)

Welcome to Polyvore!

There you go, if you see a girl wearing these things in Europe this late fall....it's probably me.

I'm in the process of redecorating my room and coming up with a cool new hipster/artsy desk writing area. Right now I'm not exactly sure how to go about making my "desk", but I have a super crafty handy friend who I think can help. And hey he just started a blog to document his super crafty-ness! So go check it out now because we're internet friends. And I need help building my sweet new writing table.

 More Kate Spade Cheers,

Marisa

I like pleasure spiked with pain...

And music is my aeroplane..........Ohhhhhhhhhhh man I cannot tell you how happy I am that it is Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a crazy week although I did have a freaking awesome day yesterday. Just one of those days where everything was going great and other unexpected great things happened. Love days like that ya know? Anyway, I have been jonesing for a new tattoo like whoa. I've had some ideas in mind for a while but still not 100% sure. My ideas are:

(Image via google)

Enso, better known as a Zen Circle (enso means circle in Japanese) Been wanting this one for about well over a year now. Placement is still my issue with it though. Any thoughts? I only have 1 small tattoo now so the possibilities are endless!

The other idea I have is fairly new:

(Image via google)

A Phoenix. Only cooler than that one. I need someone to draw one up for me. Hear that artist friends? Only don't worry I'll be cooler anyways because I'm lacking the tramp-stamp.

Both have some meaning to me, the zen circle because it'd be a constant reminder that intellectual reasoning is not all thats important and introspection and quiet meditation need to be a priority. The phoenix for it's known symbolic meaning of death and rebirth. A reminder that from the ashes springs new life.

Sorry to get all philosophical on you when talking about tattoos. So thoughts? Ideas? Do you hate them? Let me know.......

Happy Friday Loves!

Sorry I want to be inspiring and witty...

But this midwest humidity and heat has totally zapped me of all ambition and strength. Seriously, it's 10pm and still 95 and humid...wtf? Come on fall where are you! So since I've gotten nothing fun to report in my life please sneak a peak at some of the things I'm covetting for fall and holiday from my favorite....Thread Social

( Retro, Military & Feminine oh yes please....)

And finally, the one I want more than anything....

(This dress will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine)

Sigh, unfortunately it needs to cool down like 30 degrees before any of these are feasible. I may catch a lot of hate for this but whatevs: I hate summer. There I said it. Hate hate hate it. I want my sweaters and riding boots please. Ugh I'm turning into Grumpy McGrumpypants. Here's hoping tomorrow is nicer weather.

Haircut! EDIT!!!!!!!

Okay in just an hour I will be going with the bestie for a hair cut. Last time I tried Hayden P. and it didn't turn out so good. So I've decided to go for it get my dream haircut a la my idol the freaking fabulous Victoria Beckham.

(image via google)

(please please please let my hair look like this)

I am nervous because I want to do Posh proud and I'm totally up for the reasponsabilities that lie ahead with looking like Becks. On the list: lose 15lbs and look like a model, have 3 boys and still be ridiculously skinny, and own many many pairs of Loubies. A bit overwhelming but I can do it! Unless of course it ends up more disasterous than the Hayden P. cut and I go all Britney in the salon and shave my head. I'll update when I return...brace yourself.

EDIT

Okay so here it is in the form of some really terrible photos because my camera is the mega suxxxx.

Obviously I've got some work to do to live up to the high standards Posh has set. Hopefully this weekend someone with a cool camera takes some better pics.

So I've Been Slacking....

Big time folks. I haven't blogged in far to long. So here I am with an update on all things revolving around my life. It has been crazy. Last to weeks were just that, work and house things. Although I am happy to report that the subfloor is done and the materials for framing out the walls have been purchased! Hooray! Next up is....new washing machine and refrigerator! ( I know, I know,I know I am lame and old.) But seriously it is such a relief to see the basement underway. I've never gotten to actually use it since before it was the band room and then it flooded. I can't wait to put it to use!

I've been meaning to blog about this for a long time, but over at Oofa and Life is Bananas they blogged about their new found love for Cargo's Blu-Ray Hi-Def powder. Me and the Bestie being faithful readers and lovers of all things make-up decided to give it a go. My first go with it....notsomuch. It provided my crappy skin very little coverage and it did not work out as a foundation for me. However, the next day I used it as a finishing powder over my foundation and concealer (I KNOW alright, I have terrible uneven skin. You should feel bad for me.) and WHOA! I was sold. My skin never looked so even and it lasts
A L L D A Y L O N G. No joke. Sephora has discontinued selling Cargo make-up but Ulta still carries it. I highly recommend.

Moving on to all things handbags. I've been dying for a new bag for spring. Back in Sept. D bought me the awesomest Lacoste Boston Bag from their L University Line,

(Navy in the fall? Sign me up.)

and I've been rocking the shit outta that bag ever since. But with spring around the corner I feel it's time to retire the Navy Blue :( and bust out a bright color or two. With that in mind, I am pleased to inform you that I am now the proud owner of this lovely bag.

(In the Evergreen of course.)

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Whew this has been a long one. Thats what I get for slacking so much. I promise to be around a lot more often this month.

When Shopping Online...EDIT

Caveat Emptor. I just learned this the hard way. I usually refrain from clothes shopping online as you can never be sure about fit, color, size you know things that really matter when purchasing clothes. Well mi madre gave me a gift card to JCPenney for my b-day and I did NOT want to venture out to the store to actually shop since it was Christmas time so I thought, why not try online shopping. Well I found a bunch of sweet deals, and one shirt that I took a chance on. I've become addicted to long tunics and leggings and my ankle boots. So I found this shirt for only 5 DOLLARS, so I thought what the hey, looks good on the model. So, I made the leap and bought it. Since it was only 5 bucks I thought why not be daring. It's not something I would normally pick out but time to try new things right?

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because when you step out of your comfort zone this is what you get.

(Hi. Did someone call for a janitor?)

Yeah, D called it an "attempt at a classy janitor shirt." And with that it is going back and I will find something else for my 5 bucks. Seriously when they said "billowy shirt" they were not kidding. Check out the sleeves.
(come sail away with meeeeeeeee....)

Ugh so this just reaffirms my belief that buying online is for those who love to gamble, the risk takers of the world. It is not meant for people like me. Lesson learned.

Now wear is my mop?

EDIT: The bestie pointed out this fabulous comment on the website:
"This top looks even better on than you can see in the picture. I had so many compliments when I wore this top."
Written By: penshop
Location: Littleton, Colorado
Age: 50-60

I am banned from online shopping.

Almost time for New Years Eve....

And I have nothing to wear. I went shopping last night and did not find one single suitable thing. And so here we are the day before, and I've got nothing. NOTHING. Except shoes. I have the shoes, just nothing to wear with them. Mayhaps sweatpants to dinner? It's looking like it may end up that way. Or undies and my fab heels? All I really wanted was something like this:
(image via google)

Alas I could not find anything like that. Well I am leaving work a little early tomorrow. Hopefully I can do some speed shopping and find something.

I am looking forward to the new year though. I have no resolutions per se. I suppose it would be to start up things I love again. My main one happens to be running. I haven't run since I last posted about the Race for the Cure. I miss it. So I'm looking forward to getting back in running condition, just hoping I don't break my neck running in this crazy Iowa winter weather. Ah well, I'm sure my winter weather running will make for some fun stories.

They say that New Years Day is the most depressing day of the year, and I hope that it's not for all you out there. This may sound lame but one of my favorite uplifting phrases comes from one of my favorite childhood movies, Rainbow Bright: "Every morning is a brand new day." Corny, I know, but it's so true. So heres to a kick ass start to a new decade and my next quarter century!

Badass of the week

I kinda maybe sorta forgot to do this last week...so it's just a few days late. Anyway, there is something that I have been obsessed with for quite sometime. Everytime I head into work at BBW I walk past them and die.
(Santa my B-day is Christmas Day....what do you say????)

I want these shoes soooooooooooo bad. So bad. The lovely workers at Aldo are going to get a restraining order against me since I've become the creeper staring in the window. But seriously how badass are these? New Years? Done and done. If I owned these I would wear them to work, to the store, to lunch with a fox in a box, whatevs ol' Dr. Suess could throw at me. DO WANT!!!!! You here that Santa. I ain't messing around. Since my b-day happens to be on your special day I think that means you owe me. Or something.

Noodle Zoo!

Today I ate lunch at my favorite place in Des Moines....Noodle Zoo! Seriously the best food I've ever eaten. Their house salad which is their specialty is to die for. It's impossible to describe it's something you just have to experience for yourself, whether you are a Des Moines native, Iowa resident, or just passing through my fair city, stop by and try it. Scope out their website yo and then make plans to visit and partake of their awesomeness. http://www.noodlezoo.com/

Anyways.....

My office Holiday Party is coming up and I of course have in mind the perfect outfit. However I cannot find it. I would like, a one shoulder emerald green dress and black patent leather platform pumps. Doesn't sound to hard right? WRONG! Unless of course you're rich and can afford either the Yves St. Laurent or Louboutin's that I've been obsessing over for years. Sadly I cannot and D won't give me the $700 for them. So if anyone knows where I can find these

and a dress like this:

at a price that I can afford, I'd be obliged.

Loves
