Apartment Search: Day 1

So today I went and looked at my very first apartment. It was in my price range, had all utilities paid for except electric and internet. It also met my criteria for being close to downtown and in a historical neighborhood of Des Moines. It also is family run, which is really great as I've had much better experiences renting from families or individuals than with big property managers. I was also told that there are some "lifers" in the building. By that the property manager meant little old ladies on fixed incomes. Which translated to me as cool grandma's living down the hall. It's within walking distance to the library, Gateway Market, and some cool parks. The building was finished in 1922 and has a cool old style elevator which is still used and a antique intercom system ( not in use) that looks something like this

(I think it adds character)

Those are the pros. Here are the cons:

It's not super big but I knew that going into it, after all it is a studio. However it has a Murphy Bed. For those who may be to young to know what that is I shall illustrate.

(Does not add character)

Now while that one doesn't appear so bad, rest assured that is because it is new. This bed is not new. The bathroom is teeny tiny like so tiny I don't think I could put my tower that holds my make up and hair bins in it. That would be the biggest tragedy of all. It's a little run down looking, not at all what I'm used too. Did I mention the bathroom was teeny tiny?

Perhaps I'm being to picky, and I literally cannot afford to be picky. After writing all this down I can now see that the pros are greater than the cons. I haven't had to apartment hunt since spring 2006, so I'm a little rusty. Now that I know what I'm in for, I just need to come up with a game plan and be better at really really looking at the space. I'm seeing another one in the same building Friday afternoon, so I'm going to come up with a list of questions and do my best at looking at every inch. Wish me luck!

Holy Update!!!!!!!!

My apologies blog friends. I have been MIA. It's been a crazy couple of weeks. At work, at home, traveling and such. Oh and what was it I was traveling for you ask? Why, to see
THE GREATEST BAND TO EVER LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(OMG MUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Most amazing 2 hours of my life. Words cannot even describe how awesome it was. When Matt Bellamy sang out "I'll never let you go if you promise not to fade away" 23,000 thats right 23,000 Muse fans shouted back "Our hopes and expectations." And I got to be one of them. The energy in the United Center that night was unlike anything I've ever experienced before, and you can bet that I will be seeing them again. Soon.

On another note, got to see an old friend who is a blast to hang out with. I miss him and wish we could see him more often.

Stop. Hammer time.

More like....MARATHON TIME! Yeah, okay I know I was all about the triathlon training. I will be the first to tell you that training for your first distance/endurance race is hard by yourself. Especially when you're not a fan of 2 out of the 3 things in a triathlon. So I am now in training for the Twin Cities Marathon. It's supposed to be a really great marathon, smaller so not to overwhelming. Really excited. And I have a training partner for it. It also cost $106 so I am in it to win it. I don't drop $106 just like that. Unless it's Michael Kors. Or Kate Spade...okay maybe I can drop $106 like that, but I mean business if I do.

So tomorrow morning bright and early, hitting the Y. Woooo!!!!!! Can't let my "coach" down.

Happy Friday!
(And Happy March Snowstorm to my fellow DSM-ers)

It's a Bright Sunshiny Day!

Well I'm finally 100% over my sickness and feeling ohhhh so much better. My apologies for that sad sad rant. I was truly feeling lonely as hell and full of self loathing. However I am past that now and everything is fine. Anyway soooo excited for this weekend as me and the bestie are heading up to the Ole college town to hang with our long lost roomie. ( She's not lost she just doesn't live in the DSM with us.) Can't wait for the crazy times I know are ahead. We know how to party and it's been faaarrrrr to long.

(who's that guy you ask? Don't know but he bought our drinks all night ;)

Friday can't get here soon enough, this week is dragging yet again. Ah well time to get to work on my spring look book. I'll post about that later.

Oh and 10 DAYS TILL MUSE LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
